The 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR Figurine Collection Design Concept 1 July 2007, marks the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR. It is a proud moment for the people of Hong Kong. Indeed I am honoured to be invited by the Information Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government to design a Figurine Collection. It is an unforgettable experience for me. The concept of this Figurine Collection originated from my personal feelings about the heart of Hong Kong people. To me, everyone in Hong Kong has a spirit of perseverance, passion, a love for the country and Hong Kong. For a start, I used an adorable boy and girl as the design blueprint. They represent vitality and energy. As a way to express our love for the country and Hong Kong, and the care shown to us by our motherland, I chose our country’s national treasure, the Panda, to create another pair of unique Panda figurines. Each one of them has a letter or symbol in the front that reads “I”, “Love”, “H”, and “K”. Good designs can be appreciated from different angles. When the four figurines stand together, from the back you can see them performing the Dragon Dance, holding big drum sticks and celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the HKSAR. I have also been careful with the packaging design. The four packaging boxes will create the Chinese cultural totem – the Rainbow Dragon. These designs reflect the unity and the roaring spirit of Hong Kong people. I hope these figurines for the 10th Anniversary of the HKSAR can let the people of Hong Kong take a break from their bustling life and enjoy this grand celebration with hope and happiness. I also wish that every 1 July, we can move forward with stability and prosperity in our motherland and Hong Kong.
